USS NEW YORK
While sitting on the Mississippi River just south of New Orleans waiting my turn to take my boat into the locks, I looked up and my heart leaped to my throat. I couldn't believe my luck! I grabbed my camera and with tears of joy and pride, took these pictures of the NEW YORK as she idled by. Built of steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center, by a good Louisiana ship yard. The ship is an amazing symbol of the ties that bind us as a nation.

I stood outside the wheelhouse, hat held over my heart and waved as she passed. May God protect those who serve on her decks.

Thanks for the link, Anonymous. I had no idea how lucky I was to see the ship 'til I got home and checked out the official site you posted. Seeing the USS NEW YORK that day was an experience I will carry with me to the grave. May God Bless all the lives she touches, and may she be an inspiration to all of America in these trying times.

Ohhhhh, you have every right to be proud to have a daughter serving our country on the USS New York. And by your posting your comment, it makes it more personal to us. Almost like we got family on that ship that we can pray and be thankful for.(We never know who reads our Blog, or if anybody does for that matter, so by your commenting, you have doubly blessed us.) and now; God Bless the military and God Bless parents like you who raise their kids right, then allow their most precious children to stand guard over our nation.
Talk about irony; last night we watched a program on the Science Channel about the shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi where the USS New York was 'fitted'. We were thrilled and amazed at the work that those shipworkers perform. We sat there transfixed as we watched a (oh, gosh, I hope I get this right)a 54 TON gate was placed on the back. These guys are ingenious!! They even have a technique for bending metal, using brains and ...wow! physical labor. I told Cappy, "Boy, for such lean and healthy looking guys, nobody would want to start a fight with one of them...they'd get flattened!" We learned a lot more about the special ships they build. An education, if you will. Seeing things like this gives Cappy and me such pride for our country. The news media doesn't put all this wonderful stuff right out, front and center, but they SHOULD showcase our these guys, who are our country's 'backbone'. They are responsible for the transportation of our nations "precious cargo". The program, last night, unveiled these unseen and unsung heros. God Bless 'em!!!
